Subsequently, the captain used the emergency code to open the door. In the meantime, however, the second pilot apparently woke up from the faint and opened himself.

The captain of the flight then decided to land in Madrid because of the health of his colleague, where the pilot’s healthcare professionals were taken to the hospital. According to the investigation report, the pilot had no health problems before. Lufthansa said she was aware of the reports, she carried out its own investigation, but did not disclose these conclusions.

The Ciaiac investigative report recommended that the other authorized person always be present in the cockpit if one of the two pilots has to leave.
