A photographer who worked at the Cannes Festival: That moment was impressive

G. Gražys himself talked about how to get to the Cannes Film Festival and what such an event means to the photographers themselves.

– You returned from the Cannes Film Festival. Did you visit the first time there?

– No, this is the fourth time I was in Cannes. This year was after a long break-Covid-19 pandemic.

– How did you get there?

– It all started with photography of the Film Spring Festival in Lithuania. I have worked for many years at that festival, I know the organizer well. They helped me a little, encouraged me. They said that if I wanted something more, Cannes is a place to go.

– Is it difficult to get there?

– First you have to have accreditation to that place, you get the invitation from the festival itself – you give your portfolio, they value. I do not know how they decide, but look at the portfolio.

– What does it mean to work at such an event for himself?

– Many people dream of being on the red carpet – in one sense: some pass, others are photographed. It means a lot to me. This is a world -class event. Seeing the red carpets, this is the third largest in the world and the first in Europe.

– Are the stars at such events – Angelina Jolie, Robert de Niro – makes any requirements? On the contrary, they are nice?

– They are really nice and give tribute to photographers. The actors involved in the films do those things for 2-3 years, for them, this is a moment of glory – to enjoy the moment, to give tribute to photographers and the media.

– Is there a competition between photographers when you try to call the star to turn to you?

– Everything is very interesting. No one knew that Angelina Jolie would come to the festival. We just heard that there is a loud scream of fans (there are fans at the beginning of the carpet, they shout loudly). We turned to look at the TV and saw Angelina Jolie. That moment was spectacular – the horror went through the body.

– What did the most spectacular capture this year?

– Angelina was the number one I dreamed of having my portfolio. It is a pity that Leonardo DiCaprio could not be photographed.

– Can it be said that this is a light drug? When you get hooked and want an even brighter stars, a more impressive shot?

– Really yes, you want more. There are thoughts that you would like to visit other festivals – not only in Europe but also outside the Atlantic.

– Do you manage to take a photo together with such stars?

– If you are in a fan area, there is a chance that you will come to you, but it is minimal.

– When it comes to photographers – there is a time when you can catch such a moment. Is there great competition?

– Yes, in a way, but we are all friendly enough.
