A photo of a legendary bomb shot over Budapest was found
It could also be called an amazing feat if the pilot of the B-17 bomber he had hit over Budapest would not have fought for his own and his crew life. A photo of the legendary aircraft has now been published.
July 14, 1944, almost a year left in II. World War. Allies are already bombarding the German empire and their minions, including Hungary: the British Air Force was attacked at night, during the day the American B-17 bombers sprinkled their murderous burden. That day, the Mizpah bomber targeted the oil refiner near Budapest when the Hungarian air defense projectile hit him. The explosion cut off the nose of the machine, the bombing officer and the navigator died immediately.
A photo of a US community site has been published these days about the B-17, a b-17, fluttered by the Flying Fortress, and the pilot Ewald Swanson was able to save the surviving members of the crew-legendary with a heroic and plane.
– The plane could fly another ten minutes this way – they wrote on the site.
The back of the fly was immediately filled with smoke, who were here, could jump out with their parachute. It is incredible that the pilots flew for long minutes without instruments and windshields.
Legendary bomber
There were many legends circulating about MIZPAH here. Many thought that the crew of the plane crashed next to you was nailed by the locals because they were all black and the Hungarians believed them to be devil. The reality, however, is that the bomber’s eight -person staff was captured and, apart from the victims of the anti -aircraft hit, they all survived the war.
