When the family wanted to go on a trip, it was noticed that the boy was not nearby. A feverish search has started. First, grandparents were looking for a grandson on their own. The services were finally notified. The area was combed and along.

There was no trace of the child. As if he melted in the air. The disappearance of Emile seemed inexplicable. The services were helpless. Fear turned into a stretch torment.

True, the worst, came after a few months. On March 30, 2024, at a distance of only 1.5 km from the house of Emile’s grandparents – in a place that the teams searched for many times before – a random walker came across the remains. Everything indicated that they could belong to the child. They were fragments of the skull and bones. Fragments of clothes were found nearby. DNA tests have confirmed that they were the remains of a lost boy.

It was supposed that the two -year -old left too far from the grandparents’ house and got lost in the forest. And then his fate went tragically. A lonely and scared child would fall victim to wild animals. It was suspected that wolves could attack him.

A breakthrough in the investigation? Emile’s grandparents were detained

Investigators took into account other versions of the tragic death of a two -year -old. The child could have an accident. There could also be a crime. On Tuesday, March 25, investigators detained Emile grandparents. Their house was also searched and their car and a trailer were confiscated. Uncle and aunt of the boy were also detained. The media reported on the allegation of murder and hiding the corpse.

After two days of interrogation on Thursday, March 27, all four were released from custody. The prosecutor’s office from the Aix-EN-Provence announced that no one was charged.

Prosecutor Jean-Luc Blachon said that the detainees were released when they answered all the questions asked to them. He noted that the investigation gathered around the family is not yet closed and investigators are determined in revealing the circumstances of the boy’s death.

Prosecutor Blachon gave the BBC the latest hypothesis about Emile’s death. According to investigators, the child’s remains and clothes were moved to their place of finding them shortly before the random person came across them.
