A macabre find in the forest near Nidzica. Results are given
The results of research of fallen poultry, abandoned in the forest in the Janowiec Kościelny commune, were finally confirmed by the presence of a bird influenza virus – the Veterinary Inspection said on Tuesday. The matter of taking nearly 700 dead chickens to the forest is explained by the police.

As informed by PAP, foresters from the Nidzica Forest District (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship) discovered a week ago that in the forest near the volunteer in the Janowiec commune, someone threw out almost 500 dead chickens. Near this place they found another 230 pieces placed in sacks. They informed the police and veterinary services about the case. Samples for testing were taken, the fallen birds were cleaned and taken to dispose of, the place of their finding was disinfected.
The results of laboratory tests obtained at the end of last week, performed at the Veterinary Hygiene Department in Gdańsk, confirmed the presence of a bird influenza virus in fallen chickens. In order to finally confirm the result, the samples were forwarded to the National Veterinary Institute – the National Research Institute in Puławy, which is the National Reference Laboratory in the field of bird flu.

– PAP informed the Poviat Veterinary Doctor in Nidzica Jarosław Wyrorski on Tuesday.
He also said that the H5N1 virus strain was identified, i.e. highly bird flu. He added that at this stage of the Veterinary Inspection activities were completed, and the research results will be transferred to the prosecuts, whose role will be the detection of the perpetrator.
In the matter of deportation to the forest, about 700 dead hens police from Nidzica are currently conducting explanatory actions. Confirmation of the presence of a bird influenza virus is important for the legal qualification of the act. It can be treated as a crime, not an offense involving the littering of the forest. For such a crime – in accordance with the Act on the protection of animal health and combating infectious animal diseases – there is a penalty of up to three years imprisonment.
As PAP found out, two similar cases of throwing a significant amount of fallen poultry to the forest have also been detected recently in the nearby Mława poviat, in the province. Mazowieckie.
The Poviat Veterinary Officer in Mława Roman Domański told PAP that about 350 dead chickens near the village of Krzywonoś were first found, and then 30 sought bags with a faded poultry and a dozen or so pieces of loose were found near the town of Wyszyny Kościelne. He added that in both cases there are positive results for the presence of bird flu. « The police and the prosecutor’s office are notified about the case, » he noted.
Bird flu (Avian Influenza) is an infectious disease of animals subject to the obligation to fight. It poses a threat primarily to birds – both wild, free -lived and for poultry bred by people. The concept of bird flu is hidden in various virus subtypes differing in virulentness and infectiousness.
