A floor as beautiful as in Portugal – Diepresse.com
In the game « Calçada », districts are equipped with pretty sidewalks and squares – based on the model of the popular Portuguese paving technology.
Since « Azul », the game of 2018, the wall tiles of Portugal have conquered the game boards with their winding, often floral ornaments. « Azul » not only followed many sequels, but also countless similar plates. They are all nice, a bit meditative too. On the one hand, however, it is not easy to get something new, and on the other hand it may not be necessary. So I was curious and also a little skeptical when the typical ornaments from the box of the game « Calçada » shone towards me. Instead of the wall tiles, it is the pavement, called Calçada Portugeues, for which the country on the western tip of Europe is almost as famous.
More points for the same motifs
The mechanism is simple and original. All players have a board on which districts are depicted with numbered fields. Stones are in five colors on a roundell. Depending on which color you choose and how many other stones are still available in the respective round field, you can take a tile from the display and place it on a numbered district field. If a district is full, it will be rated equally.

At the end of the game, the boards are quite fully paved. If you manage to put the same motifs next to each other across the district, this brings a lot of points.
The game has been on the shelf for a few months now, and since then it has always been on the table because it can play smoothly and can still be quite tricky. The authors of Konstantino’s Karagiannis and Vangelis Bagiartakis actually make it to the popular topic with “Calçada”, recently published in the traditional Vienna publisher Piatnik, to bring fresh blood to Portugal’s wall and soil decorations. It is not easy, deserves respect and has had a lot of fun to my game -savvy environment.
