A fight took place today in the Bulgarian parliament over the decision to join the eurozone, and some parliamentarians have urged supporters of preserving the national currency to block the National Assembly.

During the parliamentary session, lawmakers of the pro -Russian rebuilding, at the call of leader Kostadin Kostadinov, blocked access to the rostrum, and then Kostadinov climbed it.

« Today is a black day for Bulgaria, the janissaries are burying our country, » Kostadinov said.

Photographs published by Bulgarian media show that there was a physical altercation between two lawmakers.

The parliamentary group of « Continuing the Change-Democratic Bulgaria » submitted a proposal to remove Tsonco Ganev from the party’s restoration from the post of deputy chairman of the People’s Assembly. This was announced by coalition MP Daniel Lorer on social media.

The reason is after the tension today escalated in the plenary hall when Ganev hit MP Javor Boenkov from « We continue with the change – Democratic Bulgaria ».

Supporters of the Bulgarian national currency are protesting in front of the National Assembly building this morning, and Kostadinov urged protesters to block parliament.

The European Commission yesterday gave Sofia’s green light to move to the euro from the beginning of 2026, making Bulgaria the 21st country to join the single currency zone.
