In the Elisabeth Park in Brussels, a few hundred people gathered for a quiet wake on Tuesday evening to commemorate the Fabian (11) who died on Monday. The Moldavian boy from Jette died after a collision with a police combination. His mother and dense family also attended the Wake. « What happened is out of proportions. A child of 11 years of haunting a step I a park?! », It sounds to local resident Celine Lavrysen (36).
The 11-year-old Fabian Cernelevschi was on the way of school home in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek on Monday evening when a police patrouille wanted to stop him. The boy fled, after which the police started a chase. During that chase things went wrong in the Elisabeth Park. Fabian sustained a tough head wound and died in the hospital on Monday evening.

Various people put flowers to the scene of the incident on Tuesday. When a few hundred people gathered at the place on Tuesday evening, there were candles and there were several places. Around half past five Tuesday evening a few hundred people gathered for a quiet wake. The mother, supported by her loved ones, and the dense family of Fabian attended De Wake.

A dad who prefers to stay anonymously tells: “We live in the neighborhood and thought it was important to be here. I also have two children and they also play here in the park. When something like that happens and you have children yourself, it suddenly comes very close. We are in shock and very sad“

Celine Lavrysen (36), also a witness of the two of the two witnesses: « There is a sense of indignation. What happened is out of proportions. A child of 11 years on a step I have a park?! I think it is important to be here for the family and to make it clear that this is not possible. »
Alexandra de Smet (34): « I also have two children and want to be here today to support the family. That sense of solidarity is now important. »
« We are all in shock. I have spoken with many people from the neighborhood. That a child of 11 is hit. We are entitled to a safe environment, » says the people of Hero4Zero. The association is committed to road safety in Brussels. « If you are younger than 16 years old and you drive a scooter, you normally get a fine of 58 euros. If that is the value of a child, then we have to ask ourselves questions. »
