A European leader cannot be in Moscow
France criticized the presence of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Moscow to participate in events that mark the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany.
« It is not appropriate for a European leader to be in Moscow today, » said Benjamin Haddad, the French minister responsible for Europe.
Robert Fico is the only leader of an EU member state to participate in events in Moscow. However, when asked about the possibility of imposing sanctions on the Slovak leader, the French minister emphasized that « every state is sovereign, especially in foreign policy and defense issues ».
He also noted that in the face of Russia, which is fighting against Ukraine, in foreign policy and defense matters, EU member states have reached « over the past three years, even together with Slovakia or Hungary » to « renovate the Sanctions every six months ».
« We have managed to continue our support for Ukraine and maintain a permanent dialogue with all members of the European Union, » he said.
The French minister also greeted the signing of a friendship treaty with Poland, a partner that, according to him, has neglected.
« This treaty represents a major step forward in relations between France and Poland, which will allow us to deepen our links to the institutional and political level, at the economic level, in the defense infrastructure, with a country that is at the forefront of the Russian threat and plays an important role in Europe, » the French minister said.
