A duel between the right and the extreme right in the second round – Liberation
The duel of the second round in Saône-et-Loire will be played on the right. The outgoing RN deputy, Arnaud Sanvert (31.92 %), came at the top of the first round Sunday, May 18 of the partial legislative of the department of Burgundy-Franche-Comté. He is followed by the vice-president of the department, former LR Sébastien Martin (25.60 %). « I now call for the gathering of territory forces to have a really useful deputy for this constituency »reacted the candidate on the right, while the former deputy of the national rally called for mobilization « Faced with an Emmanuel Macron candidate ». The far right elected official had seen his election in July 2024 being invalidated as a result of metering irregularities.
Unlike last year’s election, the left left divided: candidate of the Union of the left in 2024, second in the second round with more than 31 % of the votes, the rebellious Fatima Kouriche, who presented himself this time under the LFI label, saw his score collapse with only 8.2 %. Conversely, the socialist neophyte Clément Mugnier surprised by arriving in third position with almost 17 % of the votes. A result, however insufficient to qualify in the second round, marking a new defeat for the left to partial legislative elections in recent weeks.
On the right, the president of the agglomeration of Chalon, Sébastien Martin, was not officially invested by LR but he had behind the local executives as well as the president of the department, André Accary, and the very right -handed mayor of Chalon, Gilles Platret. The candidate had not returned to his card after The rallying of Éric Ciotti at the RN But he wanted to believe in the start of the right, with three recent victories in the partial elections of the party now Chaired by Bruno Retailleau. He claims to be « The only candidate of the right and the center » But another former LR is in the running: the mayor of Montceau-les-Mines, Marie-Claude Jarrot, who joined the Horizons party of Edouard Philippe, did not convince enough, obtaining 12.47 % of the votes. The former macronist deputy, Louis Margueritte, who became deputy director of François Bayrou’s cabinet in Matignon, after being beaten in 2024 by the RN, had supported him.
On the extreme right, the outgoing RN, Arnaud Sanvert, was competed by a pretender of the patriots (training of the ex-FN Florian Philippot) and another from the party of France, which Sanvert’s courts to court to announce himself on his ballot like voting as « Rally of the national right », thus maintaining confusion with Marine Le Pen’s party. « Our movement has continued to progress » In Saône-et-Loire, recalled Jordan Bardella, the president of the RN, who came to support his candidate in Montceau-les-Mines, a former red-Back-to-the-right. Three of the five districts of the department chose the RN or its allies in 2024.
Arnaud Sanvert, former 41 -year -old night receptionist, was elected nine points ahead in the second round (40.57 %), largely taking advantage of a triangular. Besides Fatima Kouriche (LFI), the candidate of the right, Gilles Platret, who had a time flirted with the extreme right, had excluded from withdrawn while Louis Margueritte had respected the republican front.
