A drunk bus driver transported fourteen people
A dangerous event occurred last Thursday, June 5, when the duty officer of the emergency number received the phone from one of the Mercedes bus passengers, moving the A1 highway towards Łódź. The woman reported that the vehicle driver could be intoxicated.
Drunk recidivist behind the wheel of the bus
According to the information from the passenger, the bus stopped at the place of service of Wieszowa travelers. The notification immediately went to officers of the police station. The uniforms went to the indicated place where they quickly located the described vehicle. They found a 54-year-old driver who was clearly intoxicated. The breathalyzer test showed nearly 3 per mille of alcohol in the body.
As it turned out quickly, this was not the first slip -up of the man. The officers determined that The 54-year-old had a driving license before – Also for driving after alcohol and causing a road accident. Despite this, he got behind the wheel of the bus and transported it fourteen people, exposing their lives and health.
Failed attempt to « settle the matter »
After stopping, the driver was taken to a police car. It was then that the bribery attempt took place. The man took out a cash file and turned to the policemen with the words: « Don’t hurt me. » Despite the firm instructions that he was trying to commit another crime, he continued – he handed the officers money and added that it was not a bribe, but « thanks ».
He was immediately detained and transported to a police cell. Actions related to the forfeiture of the vehicle he drove were also performed on the spot.
Allegations and detention on remand
The proceedings in this case are conducted by officers from the Department to fight the economic crime of the Poviat Police Headquarters in Tarnowskie Góry, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office. In the following days, he was detained to the prosecutor’s office, where he heard the allegations: Corruption (attempt to give a bribe to public officials), drive a vehicle in a state of intoxication and bringing the direct danger of a disaster in land traffic.
The court granted the investigators’ application and temporarily arrested the man for three months. He faces a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment.
