Police officers of the Novo mesto Traffic Police Station stopped the driver of the Mercedes passenger car on Wednesday at about 1 pm at the highway near Obrežje, with German license plates, which drove at a speed of 213 miles per hour. The permitted speed was thus exceeded by 83 km/h.

He was fined $ 1,200 and nine penalty points for a serious violation of road-proof regulations.

According to the Novo mesto Police Directorate, they will continue with activities to calm traffic in the coming holidays, as unadjusted speed is still one of the main causes of traffic accidents.

By mid -April 2024, four deaths were recorded in the Novo mesto Police Department (six in 2023), two of which were over -speed. In accidents, 81 people were seriously injured, which is 23 percent more than in the same period last year, and 533 people suffered minor injuries.

Police warn that unadjusted speed is the cause of more than half of traffic accidents with serious injuries, and most accidents still occur in settlements and regional roads. This year, police officers on the roads of Dolenjska, Posavje and Bela Krajina dealt with 13,469 violations for speeding.

Prompt Drivers: Respect traffic regulations, drive carefully and responsibly – all days of the year.
