A dream to reality with Ragnari

The desire of the crime writer of popular Ragnar Jónasson to participate more in the making of television series and film was the trigger for his newly formed production company announced earlier today.

With him on board in Dimma Pictures are the company Stampede Ventures and manufacturer John-Paul Sarni, the same group and worked with him on the episodes Dimma.

« We worked together to make the episode Dimma a year ago. That collaboration went very well and we were both excited to do something more, but maybe I wanted to participate more and have more to say about this, » says Ragnar when asked, including scriptwriting. Although Ragnar’s role in making the Dimma episodes has not been large, he says he has been good at attending the scene and monitoring closely.

The first season, The Girl Who Died, based on Ragnar’s book, the village, is in preparation with Anna Friel starring and said he is extremely excited for the project.

Ragnar admits that a long-awaited dream is to be realized to try as a screenwriter and move on to the television and film industry.

« I think this is an interesting world and a different approach, but you are always just telling stories. It’s also a little more collaboration than writing a book so you get to know more people and meet other artists who are great in some areas and it’s fun to work with people, » he replies.

Book ready for the next Christmas

When asked, Ragnar does not intend to reduce traditional crime writing despite the new company and its related projects. He is already working on the next books. However, he said he has only earned the pasture and is, for example, completing a book for Christmas 2026.

It is uncertain when the first series of Dimma Pictures will come to light. First you need to find a TV station to show it, but if everything goes according to wishes, it will be possible to start shooting next year, he adds and says many different episodes need to click together, unlike the book writing where he sits alone in writing.

« Anna (Friel) is very excited for this and with a person like her on board I hope this can happen fast. »

Agatha Christie comes to mind

It is planned to later create more episodes or films based on content by authors other than Ragnar. However, there is nothing in hand. Asked to mention a dream author in that context, his favorite author comes to mind first.

« I would prefer Agatha Christie so you can’t discriminate against anyone who is still alive, » he replies in light. « She has always been the person I have learned the most, but we are looking for some new voices, » he adds.
