Some self -protective actions while meeting with a bear
As a rule, a bear withdraws to man; Uncomfortable, however, can end with teddy and puppies if a bear walker surprises and does not have time and room for withdrawal or if the walker’s dog irritates the bear.
- In order not to surprise the bear, alert yourself in the woods.
- Keep your dog in the woods on a leash.
- If you notice a bear, do not approach him and do not bother him. Slowly retreat in the direction of your arrival and leave the bear enough space to continue the path. Move slowly, without quick movements and without shouting so that the bear would not feel threatened and start defending yourself. In exceptional cases, a bear can perform a so -called false attack, but there is no physical contact but only wants to scare the unwanted visitor. Keep or slowly lie down on the floor with your face down. Most likely the bear will stop just before you without physical contact.
- Do not approach the teddy bear or try to enter it.
- Do not dispose of food residues or other organic waste in the woods, near mountain huts, near the forest edge or near settlements, as this can attract a bear. Dispose of waste in the bear inaccessible garbage cans. It is very important to prevent bears from connecting food with human presence, as this is one of the main causes of conflict.
