Amsterdam police quickly reacted to reports of the robbery, securing the area around Dam and Sint Nicolaasstraat. Dramatic recordings appeared in social media, showing the helicopter and wounded on the hospital.
The event took place just before 15:30 local time. The « De Telegraaf » newspaper informs that in just 15 minutes after reporting, at least fourteen police cars appeared on the spot, as well as a motorcycle officer.

A police spokesman emphasized that full mobilization of security forces is currently underway. It is still unclear whether there is still a threat to residents and tourists after the suspect is arrested. Investigators appealed to witnesses to share all recordings that could help determine the perpetrator’s motive.
Five people were injured. Among the victims there is a 67-year-old American and a 69-year-old American, a 73-year-old from Belgium, a 19-year-old from Amsterdam and a 26-year-old Pole.
Thanks to the help of witnesses, officers overpowered a suspicious man. He was wounded in the leg. The determination of his identity is underway. It is not known why the man attacked passers -by. It is possible that they were completely accidental victims.
