New Jersey men who stabbed and partially blinded the writer during a lecture in New York Salman Rushdie, is, according to reporting BBC sentenced to 25 years in prison. It is a 27-year-old Hadi Matarwho had previously been found guilty of attempted murder and attack.

Hadi Matar has double, American and Lebanese citizenship, born in California but grew up in Fairview, New Jersey, states Wikipedia. His parents come from the village of Yaroun in South Lebanon, where he is supporters of Hezbolah and Iranian government. After visiting his father’s home in Lebanon in 2018, Matar is expected to become more lonely and focused on the Islamic faith. His records in the social media indicated the support of the Islamic revolutionary guard and Shiite extremism.

During the trial, Matar expressed his admiration for the Iranian leader Ayatola Homeywho in 1989 published a fatel against Rushdi because of his novel Satanova’s verses. Matar said he respected Ayatola, but denied that the attack would be motivated by Iran or Hezbolah.

After the attack, Matar remained in the United States, where he was arrested and accused of attempted murder, bodily injuries and terrorism. The indictment claims that he tried to provide material support from Hezbolah, but without concrete supporting documents about the connection with the organization.
