A child denied ingestion, drug tests negative, followed by a number of investigations
An example of poisoning a minor with a semi -synthetic cannabinoid in Dynamite Popping Candy raises a series of questions, especially the questions about the accessibility of such products. If something is purchased legal, it does not mean that it is also safe, experts warn.
Those who opt for cannabinoid products advise special caution for products that are eaten orally, as the entire psychoactive substance enters the bloodstream at one time.
Dynamite popping candy in his bag discovered mother
Coupling crystals ingested by a minor who landed in a hospital contain the HHC-C9 (CC9) semi-synthetic cannabinoid. « These are substances that imitate the effects of THC or cannabis, which can be converted into an active substance by modulating the molecule, while avoiding substances that are regulated, » he explained at today’s press conference Marko Verdenik from the Drogart Association.
Doctor with Center for Clinical Toxicology and Pharmacology Damjan Grenc He pointed out the importance of knowing what someone who brings him to a hospital with health problems was consumed. It was precisely in the case of a aforementioned poisoning of a minor that they were dealing with investigating the cause of consciousness, vomiting and other problems for several days and performed a whole host of investigations. They also performed a test for drugs and alcohol, but showed nothing special. « The property of these new psychoactive substances is that they are hidden so that normal tests cannot detect them, » he noted.
The parents found the parents of a heavily stunned child, who could only mom on Friday night and took him to a pediatric clinic. He vomited along the way. He denied that he would eat anything, only later did Dynamite Popping Candy discovered his mother and inform doctors in his bag.
Manufacturers faster than to include illicit drug lists
Namely, such re -enacts are not on the lists of illicit drugs, until they are not captured through the system of early information about new psychoactive substances, and finally, if they find that they are dangerous, they are classified.
The system includes several stakeholders who cooperate with each other, such as the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), the University Clinical Center (UKC) Ljubljana or their Center for Clinical Toxicology and Pharmacology, Drogart, General Police Directorate and Laboratory of the National Laboratory for Health, Environment and Food (NLZOH).
The purpose of the system is to recognize the substance, when it occurs, and also report it to the European Drug Agency and inform users and organizations that have drug users. If it were a major outbreak or a danger to public health, we would also inform the general public, she explained today Mateja Jandl from Nijz.

“We wander here perfectly in the dark”
The role of Drogart in this system is to obtain as much user data as possible to find out what the risks are. « The biggest problem here is that it is brand new substances, so there is very little information about risks, doses, contraindications with some health conditions, what happens if this is used in combination, if very young people use it, in short, we are wandering here in the dark, so we also watch this on Drogart and collect information. »
An additional problem is the substances that are marketed in the form of candy, chocolates, cups such as Dynamite Popping Candy, « which first look safer to use when compared to illicit substances that are powder -shaped, crystals, tablets. Thus, an inexperienced person can give a false sense of security and will consume this product sooner, « Verdenik described.
Another problem, however, is false advertising, as the declaration on the product itself often deviates from what actually shows a laboratory analysis. Or it even writes on the declaration that it is not intended for ingestion, but it is a decorative or cosmetic product, which protects the seller from liability, but in fact the product promises psychoactive effects.
How to avoid avoiding legal restrictions?
After explaining Nadja Škrk From the Food, Veterinary and Plant Protection Administration, the Ministry of Agriculture is under preparation for which products that give the appearance of food and could be consumed would be considered a food, thereby subject to different restrictions. « And we try to resolve the matter in this way, » she said when asked about avoiding legal restrictions on the sale of these substances. They are mainly accessible in specialist stores.
At the same time, the products used orally are, as a rule, stronger, since the entire psychoactive substance enters the bloodstream at one time, so the user therefore consumes everything at a time and does not gradually dose, and the concentration of the active substance is often unknown. Therefore, poisoning also occurs. Thus, Verdenik advises that, if they already reach for these substances, users should be careful and not ingest, for example, a whole candy at one time.
In Drogart, they also perform anonymous testing, where the user can bring a product that they put into laboratory analysis and inform the user of the actual composition of the sample, thereby preventing overdoses, hospitalizations and the like.
