A breakthrough of the death of 2-year-old Emile in France. Arrested grandparents
He was on July 8, 2023. 2.5-year-old Emile Soleil spent his grandparents in their summer house in a small Vernet village in the French Alps. That day, his parents were out of place. The child was playing in the yard when it disappeared unexpectedly. When Emile’s relatives realized that he was nowhere to be found, the whole area was combed. For many days of searching, services and residents conducted, but to no avail. The officers admitted that they were helpless and the child’s disappearance seemed inexplicable.

Only after nine months, in April 2024, a woman walking in the area came across a children’s skull and bone fragments, including teeth. Studies confirmed that it was the remains of little Emile, but investigators failed to indicate the cause of the child’s death. Later, fragments of clothes of the 2.5-year-old were found near the place where the remains were found. All this at a distance of about 1.5 km from the house of his grandparents. It was suspected that the boy had moved away from his grandparents’ house, lost in the forest and was attacked by wolves. Another hypothesis taken into account was an unfortunate accident or murder.
Now, according to the French media, a breakthrough has occurred in the case. According to the AFP agency, the police arrested the boy’s grandparents, Philippe and Anne Vedovini, on charges of « murder in affect ». This information was provided by the Chief Prosecutor of the Aix-EN-Provence Jean-Luc Blachon region.

Marriage lawyer, Isabelle Colombani, did not want to comment on the case. As she said, she just found out about the arrest of her clients. Prosecutors reported that two other family members were also arrested – two of the nine children of Philippe and Anne. However, the details were not informed.
Investigators appeared again in a small Alpine village at the beginning of March. According to the prosecutor’s office, arrests are the result of facts established in recent months. It is still unknown, however, on what basis it was decided to charge the boy’s grandparents.
In February this year, when hundreds of mourners were leading little Emile Soleil on the last way, his grandparents published a statement in which they stated that « the period of silence must give way to the period of truth. » « We need to understand, we need to know, » they wrote.
