The events happened around the bridge of Condesa Eylo, a few minutes walk from the Las Moreras river beach. The high temperatures of recent days have attracted many people to the surroundings of Pisuerga, among which young people, who decide to bathe despite the prohibition to do it anywhere in the city’s river route. The river has reduced its flow with respect to recent weeks, as spring rains caused its volume to rise for months, but continues to host intense currents under the surface, in addition to thermal contrast areas that can cause temperatures clashes in the body. The channel also drags branches, trunks, rocks or algae, invisible from outside but very dangerous for the bathroom. Teenagers often go to the distributed woodenboards along the river route, there they take advantage to cool and dive into the channel despite the risk.
The friends of the disappeared warned the authorities as soon as they verified that their partner did not leave the water and the wide deployment of media began in their search. The search operation was joined by the psychological intervention group in disasters and emergencies “to attend family and friends present at the scene,” as reported by the 112 Emergency Unit of Castilla y León.
