A 17-year-old stabbed with a knife died. Only Gabriela Z. will answer before the court
The drama took place on September 27 in the evening, near the entrance to the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw. 17-year-old Rafał Z. was lost with a knife in the abdomen. His condition was critical. Despite immediate medical assistance and hospitalization in the Prague hospital, the boy died three days later – September 30. Shortly after the event, 15-year-old Gabriela Z. and two 19-year-old friends-Adrian A. and Dominik B. were detained.
Warsaw. The tragic final of the quarrel between teenagers
The findings of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw show that the unlucky evening of Gabriela Z., Adrian A., Dominik B. and their friend Krystian R. stayed on the so -called Stairs on the Vistula. Around 22 The group headed towards the metro station. Along the way, there was a separation – Gabriela and Adrian moved away from the rest.
A group of young people stayed at the entrance to the subway, among whom Rafał Z. (injured). There was a short circuit between the groups. Dominik B. and Krystian R. got into a quarrel with one of the people accompanying Rafał. There was a scuffle and « support » was called. According to the account of the prosecutor’s office, the « Aggressors’ Group was to force Dominik B. to apologize. Rafał Z. was to insert a friend, which led to further tensions.
At some point, Gabriela Z. also began to participate in the incident. She quarreled with one of the girls who hit her in the face. Then, At the undetermined moment, the 15-year-old hit Rafał Z. butterfly knife. A moment later, both groups diverged.
Hidden knife and escape from the scene
Immediately after the incident, Gabriel Z. joined Adrian A. and Dominik B. She had a knife with her. According to the prosecutor’s office, Adrian A. took him to the girl and gave him Dominik B., who hid him at home.
At the same time Rafał Z., who together with a group of his friends also moved away from the scene. His friends immediately called for help and tried to stop bleeding. Several of them ran after Gabriela Z. and her companions, but the perpetrators left the subway.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts of doctors, Rafał Z. died in the hospital on September 30 as a result of injuries.
Investigation into a knife attack in Warsaw
On September 28, the day after the tragedy, all three were stopped. Gabriela Z. confessed to the task. In the testimonies she explained that she was acting in fear, defending her friends.
Adrian A. and Dominik B. could not indicate the moment when Rafał was stunned. They heard allegations of failure to help, not notifying crime and support, i.e. hiding the tool of crime.
The case of Gabriela Z., due to the fact that she is a minor, was directed to a family court. The court – after consulting two expert psychiatrists – did not agree that she would answer like an adult. This means that it can be placed in a correctional facility up to the age of 21.
Redemption of the investigation towards 19-year-olds
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw finally decided to discontinue the investigation against Adrian A. and Dominik B. as the spokesman of the prosecutor’s office explains, prosecutor Piotr A. Skiba:
« It can certainly be said that at the time when the suspects learned that Rafał Z. was pushed with a knife, they were not in place nor at a time when he realized their duty to help the victim. »
According to investigators, both men learned about the incident only under the house of Gabriela Z., when she admitted that she had lost someone with a knife. They were not aware of how serious Rafał’s state was.
Although Dominik B. hid the knife, the prosecutor’s office decided that since Gabriela would be responsible for a family court, it was not possible to effectively apply for 19-year-olds.
