The researchers found Katajan in Utsjoki in 2021. Last year, researchers returned and refined the age determination. There were four other junipers over a thousand in Utsjoki.
“It is known that the oldest juniper in Finland and the oldest wooden-stemmed plant was an individual found in the 1070-year-old Lemmenjoki before this discovery.
