98 years Dynamo Kyiv. From the NKVD Chekists to world recognition: the history of the best team of Ukraine | Football

Exactly 98 years ago, on May 13, 1927, the most titled Ukrainian club – Dynamo Kyiv was founded. The team appeared on the basis of employees of the United State Political Administration of the USSR, who made up the skeleton of the same name sports society. Then the head of the ODPU of Semen Kesselman and his deputy Sergey Barminsky signed the « Statute of the Kiev Proletarian Sports Society » Dynamo « , which registered the Interagency Commission for Public Organizations and Unions.

Despite this, the first match of the Dynamo played only on July 17, 1928 against the White Church national team. This was due to a number of organizational issues that did not allow football enthusiasts to enter the field earlier with the characteristic letter « D » on the chest.

We suggest to remember how the capital club was born, what obstacles were on the way to big football, and what fate has suffered those whom we should be grateful at least for the fact that there is one of the flagships of Ukrainian football today.

May 13, 1927

At that time, the heads of the Kiev ODPU (united state political administration) decided not to keep up with workers from Lugansk and railways of Kiev Lokomotiv, organizing their team. However, only after the adoption of the charter of Kesselman and Barminsky sat down and began to think: what next?

The Chekists spent about half a year on the bureaucratic car of the USSR, in parallel, looking for those who wanted to play football and, in fact, to train.

In addition, football infrastructure at that time almost did not existSince the newly created country only recovered after the First World and Civil War. The NEP allowed to reduce tension in society, which is why functionaries began to think about where to direct energetic youth – football gained popularity in time.

The lion’s share of the players was initially made by the Chekists themselves, but later to Dynamo was lured from Rabis (a team of art workers) and the radio service. It was the player of the latter who eventually became the author of the first goal of Kyivans in the official match – Sylvester.

In addition, the question was where the team to train. Basically, these were sports grounds all over the city and the Red Stadium (now the NSC Olympic) until in 1933 the stadium of the same name was opened in 1933, now known as Valery Lobanovsky’s stadium.

Waiting for the completion of all the necessary procedures and the new season of the Kiev Football Championship, the club has made an application for the next campaign and made his debut in city level competitions.

Debut in football, debut victories

Generally, the first match in the history of Dynamo played on July 1, 1928 against the White Church national team. The Soviet Niva newspaper wrote about this meeting: « In the second half, Bila Tserkva easily scores the ball and thereby equals the game. Kiev makes several breakthroughs, beats a free kick, but does not hit the gate. The ball whistles in the air. 2: 1 « .

According to historian Anatoly Kolomiets, it was a demonstration match, and the team of Belaya Tserkov was not a direct rival – the day before they lost 1:10. Unfortunately, the story has not preserved the names of the composition or even the author of the first goal, so the following events are always used in official data.

The first protocol-registered match « White-blue » was played on July 17, 1928 against « Odessa » from Odessa-the meeting ended with a score of 2: 2.

Dynamo Kyiv: Idzkovsky, Ivanov, Stanko, Vasylchikov, Bardadim, Pyrokket, Sylvestrov, Murashov, Galburt, Raingold, Filin.

Interestingly, the city championship began on September 23, and the list of players could be submitted until October 10. A photo of that application has been preserved in the network – the lack of some names of those who participated in a historical match, but other sources indicate that such failure is a common matter for those years.

What is the fate of Dynamo Kyiv’s first football players?

• Sergey Bardadim – played football until 1929. Retired in 1969
• Vasily Boyko – a playing coach, died in Kiev during the German occupation
• Anton Idzkovsky – played Dynamo until 1945, the next year was a team coach. Died in 1995
• Petro Dishkant-played the team until 1929, died in the war in 1944
• Sergey (Ivan) Ivanov – serviceman, further fate is unknown
• Solomon Kaufman is a criminal investigation worker, further fate is unknown
• Mykola Murashov – one of the players of council service, played Dynamo until 1929, later went to work in the civilian sphere and retired
• Moses Reingold – played Dynamo in 1928, died in the war
• Ivan Terentyev – staffing officer of the VNK (LCC) (Chekist), later retired
• Victor Trofimov – played Dynamo until 1929, died in the war
• Mykola Hannikov – played until 1928, staffing officer of the VNC, died in 1948

But the championship was not just a debut for Dynamo, but also a debut victorious – three matches, three victories and the status of a leading team of Kiev.

The worse fate befell the founders of the team. Semen Kesselman (Western) was the commissar of the KGB of the third rank, which did not save him from execution in « special order » in 1938.

A special order is a simplified procedure for a criminal case in court with the consent of a person with a prosecution.

Sergiy Barminsky, who was a deputy Cesselman, was also shot « according to a simplified procedure. » The only difference between these two Chekists and « Profunctioners » was rehabilitated after the fall of the cult of Stalin’s personality.

What was next?

After a memorial match against Odessa Dynamo, Barminsky persuaded Lazar Cogen to head his team, which he had successfully worked in Kiev until 1933, but he was met with a terrible fate. According to some reports, he died in the Syretsky concentration camp, and according to others – the Nazis were shot in Babi Yar.

On September 14, 1929, Dynamo will play his first international match – Deich Vagram will be a rival who played the Ukrainian team 4: 3. In 1931, « White-blue » won for the first time in republican competitions, which were in fact considered the unofficial championship of Ukraine.

In 1937, the USSR Cup of Football was created, which the capital team also won. Then on the way to the finals Dynamo was overcome by the Kinal Plant, Marty Plant (now Mykolaiv), Ordzhonikidze (Kramatorsk) and Dniprovske Dynamo. The final confrontation took place at the stadium at the time not Lobanovsky’s name – opponents were « classmates » from Odessa, which ended 4: 2 in favor of Kyivans.

Before the first victory in the USSR Championship remained 24 years, but what they were saturated for the country and Kiev. Another repression, the execution of team founders, war, post -war reconstruction and famine.

Dynamo was able to resist, despite the troubles that could shake the positions of the team on the Soviet arena on all sides. History knows many precedents when the club really started its story, but later either disappeared or never reached those heights. Today, Dynamo is a record holder for the number of victories in the USSR Championship, the Championships of Ukraine after independence, by the number of supercubes of the USSR and Ukraine. We hope that the club will soon be able to return its glory in the international arena, which is not enough for all Ukrainian football.
