82 houses in Viruma will become more fireproof
This year, Ida- and Lyaen-Virumaa will be put in order the heating and power supply systems in almost 82 houses as part of a joint project of the rescue department and local self-government. A project is needed in order to ensure fire safety in houses.
48 houses will be repaired in Ida-Virumaa, 34 in Lyaen-Virumaa. In 47 houses, they will put the heating system in order, in 24-an electric system, and in 11 houses-both systems. As part of the competition, six self-government from Ida-Virumaa and five from Lyaen-Virumaa submitted the support of the application support, the press service of the rescue department reports.
“Like every year, this year in some houses dangerous gas water heaters will also be replaced. Families, whose houses will be made safer, are divided by a social basis into three approximately equal groups: families with children, families with people with special needs and lonely living elderly people, ”explained the principles of selection of houses for the prevention of the eastern rescue center of Liina Yarvi. She added that this year one of the project conditions changed: self -government could submit applications as long as there were enough funds. “Unfortunately, not all Virumaa self -government managed to submit applications before the end of financing.”
The purpose of the joint project of the rescue department, the Ministry of the Interior and local self -government is to make more fireproof houses, whose inhabitants are not able to do it on their own. Recipients of assistance are chosen by local self -government and the rescue department. In 2025, the Rescue Department allocated 326,363 euros for the implementation of the project to ensure fire safety in Virumaa houses in Virumaa (last year – 270,000 euros), and local self -government will add about 20,500 euros (last year – more than 60,000 euros). The rescue department will continue the project in 2018 until at least 2026.
In the past, 2024, 39 new furnaces or plates were built to increase fire safety, a new electrical wiring was installed in 25 houses, and 18 houses received a new furnace and wiring. 8 gas water heaters were also replaced.
In Ida-Virumaa, fires in residential buildings, including deaths, most often arose due to careless smoking and malfunction of electric devices and installations, while in Lyaen-Viruma the main reason is still heating and their use.
