A 75-year-old person was killed on Saturday morning at a frontal collision on the Endingseweg in Moerbeke, near Geraardsbergen. A director then tested positively on drugs. The public prosecutor of East Flanders investigates the precise circumstances of the accident.

The accident took place around 7.30 am on the Edingseweg in Moerbeke, a part of Geraardsbergen. An adapted bus for people with a disability who drove towards Geraardsbergen was suddenly confronted with a passenger car from the opposite direction. The latter missed his bend and ended up heading frontally.

There were three people on the bus. A 35-year-old driver, a passenger and a 75-year-old wheelchair user. The latter died of his injuries on the spot. The driver of the van was subjected to an alcohol and drug test afterwards, but it was negative.

The driver of the passenger car, born in 1981, tested positively on drugs. That confirms the public prosecutor of East Flanders. He too was slightly injured in the collision. For the time being it is not clear to what extent the drugs have played a role in the accident.

The public prosecutor came to the scene and conducts further investigation into the precise circumstances of the accident.
