60% of Italians do not pay taxes: truths not dictated on tax, pensions and healthcare

Of
Alberto Brambilla

More than half of compatriots does not pay taxes and does not contribute to supporting the services of a country where the interest on the debt exceeds the expenses for the school. But politics continues to give bonuses to seek consensus

The only possibility of preserving and improving democracy and civil and social values in European countries and in Italy is to tell the truth to citizens, to that people in whose name politics has made disasters. It has made them because especially in the last 25 years the form and methodology of capture consent has changed, increasingly based on promises and greater benefits: more services for free and less taxes for everyone.

This especially in our country. With three serious effects:

1) A frightening increase in public debts which in 2024 worldwide exceeded 100 thousand billion dollars equal to about 100% of the entire world GDP. Italy is at the top of this little honorable ranking with almost 135% of debt/GDP ratio and, unlike other countries, with little possibility of improvement.

2) Do not tell the truth, indeed saying things sometimes incorrect but useful to conquer political consensus (the votes), has clouded and confused a part of the citizens who think it is their right to have everything and free. Or almost. We have become the society of rights and the word duties, which are the foundations of the rights, seems to have disappeared from the vocabulary. But if there are no duties, health care does not work, trains arrive late, school is no longer life teacher and the society worsens, Become angry. And then, to shut it up, here are the bonuses, the decontribution (do not pay me the contributions but you will have the same pension), the unique check for the family unit (the state paychet). Are the bills dear? The state intervenes. And so the citizens begin to think: if they say it, the politicians, that we are massacred of taxes and that we have so many rights, it will be true or we like to think that it is true.

3) The result is tragic and not only in Italy: political instability, extremisms. But also nationalist and anti -European movements.

Italians « Brava people »

But what are the truths that should be said in our country that, apart from the exploit after Covid, has been growing with very low percentages for over twenty years?

The first: how much a country can last where 60% do not pay taxesa 24% pour those just enough to pay the basic services. As The whole tax burden is on the shoulders of 17% of the population who declares income from 35 thousand euros gross year and up. To pay for health alone (the inalienable right) to this 60%, someone else must put on the plate every year almost 6o billion, while to finance the school there are 6 more, always borne by the few and debt. Then there is everything else: roads, assistance (another 83 billion of redistribution), functioning of the administrations.

The second truth is that we tear the clothes because few children are born But the truth is that out of 38 million Italians of work age, we struggle to find 24 million that work and so we are last in all Eurostat and OECD rankings for women, young people, over 55 (only 57%and total works. Luckily there are foreigners if not half of hotel tourist services, bars, restaurants, maintenance and gardening, agriculture, deliveries of packages and foods, would be stopped. The Italians are good people but we are at the top of the rankings for tax evasion and contributory; First for organized underworld: by the way but how many underworld of the 5 mafias are? Why are there no estimates? Are a million or even more given the hidden GDP they generate?

Uncomfortable truths

Third uncomfortable truth: if many days how many days would we resist? Between ammunition, soldiers and vehicles, perhaps 2 or 3 days? It would not even have time to intervene the NATO that we would already be ko.

Because not to tell the Italians that if nobody pays health and school, you cannot expect to have these services, given that teachers, doctors, nurses, must be paid. It was 4/6% of the needy needy the effort could be made, but 60% is unsustainable. Because not to say that there are no resources if almost 30 million Italians present the ISEE to have free services or discount; Because not to say that it is complicated for the poor 15% to survive with a taxation that will soon paralle the country.

Because working if the result of these missed truth is: the less declare (and the less clear works) and the more money and services I give you, while the more you declare and the more you tart you of taxes and less services you will be entitled.
This is the current slogan of our policy that fills the mouth of fragile and poor. Exist? Of course yes, but they should be helped with care and work, not with money and prebends. Also because in 2008 we spent for the poor 73 billion; Today we spend over 165 but the indigent absolutes (those of the queues for a meal) which were 2.1 million, today there are 5.8 million while the relative poor people went from 5.6 to 8.7 million.
In 2008, for the gambling, the Italians spent little; Today 159 billion (more than health expenditure). The mobile phones, Spotify, paid TVs, devices were not there: today Italians are first in the standings for technology and digital expenses, as well as for water and food consumption.
The party that wants to tell the truth to the Italians will win the elections and last a long time. We hope we don’t have to wait for the country’s default.
