60 Lisbon establishments have to close for Benfica-Sporting
Close to 60 restaurants, cafes and supermarkets of Lisbon, in the Marquis de Pombal area and Eduardo VII Park, they have to end at 5 pm on Saturday. The possible celebrations of the Football Championship motivate the decision.
According to the municipal order, there is “the request of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (…) to restrict the opening hours of various commercial establishments”, in more than a dozen arteries of the capital.
« It is determined, for security reasons (…), the restriction of opening hours from 17h00 on May 10, 2025 of the following establishments, located in the safety perimeter, » indicates in the order the councilors responsible for the Sports, Safety and Municipal Police, and Public Space, Diogo Moura.
At issue are, according to the list contained in the document, 57 commercial spaces (restaurants, cafes, bars, pastries and supermarkets) located in Marquês de Pombal Square, Eduardo VII Park and Liberdade Avenues, Duque de Loulé, Fontes Pereira de Melo, António Augusto Aguiar, Sidónio Pais, as well as Braancamp, Camilo Castelo Sampaio, Andrade Streets, Martens Ferrão, Joaquim António Aguiar, Mouzinho da Silveira and Duque de Palmela.
The municipality “is in contact with the representative associations of the sector and the traders to sensitize them for this request of the PSP”.
The Portuguese football title can be awarded on Saturday, in the Lisbon derby between Benfica and Sporting, which starts at 18h00 at Estádio da Luz.
Usually, to celebrate the conquest of the championship, supporters of both clubs are concentrated in the Marquis of Pombal and around.
