51 year old Mercedes 280 Bolt of Parking in Iron: « We hope that car can be saved » (Alveringem)

Just before noon, many old -timer lovers from all corners of the province had gathered in the iconic eatery ‘t Hof van Commerce in the IJzerstraat in Stavelele. That restaurant is known for its extensive Breughel meal, where various feat delicacies are served. The case has been discussed in the media several times. The location is also known for its splendor: right next to the Stavelebrug, where the iron runs behind the restaurant. The parking is also right next to the slope on the water.

Unfortunately things went wrong on Sunday, when a lot of old -timers could be admired. « A man from Zeebrugge perhaps forgot to pull the handbrake of his car, or he was dealing with a technical defect, » says police zone Spoorkin. « The Oldtimer, a Mercedes 280 from 1974, Bolde van de Helling and ended up in the water of the IJzer. » The car disappeared completely under water.

Repair

When the car was noticed in the water, the fire brigade was called. Fire brigade Westhoek sent various divers on site. « Four divers came by, two diving assistants, » says firefighter Daan Vandenbussche of Post Zuid-IJzer. « After we had localized the car, it was waiting for the tow truck. The divers were able to attach tires and necklaces to the car under water in this way, after which the car was hoisted upstairs. We took the best care and hope for the owner that the car can be restored. »

The car was back on dry land after two hours and was twisted. The car will first be completely dried and then checked. There would be good hope that recovery is possible.
