46 arrests at large -scale police action in Noordwijk Brussels (Brussels)

Thursday 46 people were arrested at a major police operation in the neighborhood around the North Station. It concerned 43 administrative arrests and three judicial. The Brussels Noord police (Schaerbeek/Evere/Sint-Joost-ten-Node) reports this on Friday.
« This type of operation is part of the Noordwijk Action Plan of our zone, which pursues several goals, » says police spokesman Katlien Breugelmans. « In particular, the intention is to have a concrete and visible impact on the problems in the Noordwijk, but also to ensure the security of public space and the increase in the safety feeling of local residents, traders and regular users of the neighborhood, which makes it possible for the services and partners on the site to act in complete safety. »
In addition to the Brussels Noord police, the federal police, the Brussels Capital/Ixelles police zone and the Brussels South police zone (Anderlecht/Sint-Gillis/Vorst) also participated in the operation. A total of 120 police officers were deployed.
« The operation of this Thursday focused on a part of the Aarschotstraat that is identified as particularly problematically by the local police, because there are often violent crimes, in particular thefts with violence, and drug crimes take place. The operation went without incidents, » said the police spokesperson.
