40% with symptoms of cooling

More than 40% of university teachers recommend high or very high symptoms of cooling and are at risk of cooling disorders according to a new study based on a survey among university students. Another survey from 2022 pointed in the same direction.

Ragna Benedikta Garðarsdóttir, professor at the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Iceland, who is involved in these studies, says in an interview in Morgunblaðið today that university teachers are under great and growing workload. Continuous tension between the segments causes the most stress. Symptoms of cooling are most prominent among young university teachers. « We see that the young people who have just been in teaching, lecturers and administrators, are simply drunk at work, » she says.

This has led some to start pursuing what is called « salami slicing », cutting the sausage thin and publishing many thinner articles, which are perhaps poorer. « This can be compared to fast -paced rather than creating good garments. »

According to Ragni, young people are wearing doctoral studies because the wages are low. « If our young people are no longer interested in undergoing doctoral studies then we are not a competitive nation, » she says.
