The coalition used a total of 364 people in the ministerial cabinets on April 7. This number announced ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS in a joint broadcast on Friday afternoon. At the same time, answering a parliamentary request emphasizes that the coalition of ÖVP and FPÖ had employed over 395 employees, i.e. 31 more, in May 2019.
In a response, the Greens, in turn, draw attention to the fact that the Federal Chancellery employs another 102 employees for press and public relations. Most of the currently active work in the cabinet of Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) at 35. In the Ministry, one emphasizes to the APA that the numbers cannot be compared, since unlike in other departments, the General Secretariat is also included here. In second place is the cabinet of Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) with 29. Here the coalition emphasizes that this is eight less than under FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl when he led the interior department. VP general secretary Nico Marchetti therefore calls the freedom chairman the « most expensive interior minister of all time ». SP federal managing director Klaus RASHEIM added that Kickl’s police horses alone cost 2.4 million.
The FPÖ speaks of « false calculations » and suggests that the Kickl numbers also included those by State Secretary Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP). The ÖVP immediately denied this in a broadcast. State Secretary Jörg Leichtfried (SPÖ) currently employs nine people. General Secretary Michael Schledlitz sees a diversion maneuver from the worst and most expensive government ever.
Cabinette costs 2.8 million
The government sets the total monthly cost of the current cabinet with 2.8 million euros. NEOS General Secretary Douglas Hoyos assured that they operate an efficient and responsible use of tax money in the ministries.
The lowest number of cabinet members with eight, by the way, has the State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry Josef Schellhorn (NEOS). Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger has 20 employees herself. There are also five for government coordination.
28 cabinet members are given in the Chancellery. There are still 19 for the State Secretary and the coordination. Vice -Chancellor Andreas Babler are located 17 cabinet employees, in the associated State Secretariat including coordination eleven. (APA)
