36% of adolescents play gambling

Bad habits are increasingly adopting adolescents in our country, putting their health a mortgage for the future.

Indeed, in addition to cigarettes, alcohol and frantic involvement with social media, their passion for gambling is evolving on a major problem.

It is sufficient to consider that 36% of first grade students have bet money in gambling in 2024, when the average of the other 36 countries involved in the same survey did not exceed 23%.

However, Italy (45%) and Iceland (41%) occupy the top positions on this negative list. But perhaps the most worrying element, since researchers deepened in this critical field, is that 7% of adolescents – based on a special scale – is probably already addicted to gambling.

The stomachs are also equivalent to adolescent answers in our country about how easy it is to find banned substances or alcohol.

It is indicative that 13% of 16 -year -olds report the use of an illegal substance (at least once) with hemp being first on the list, as high school students admit to 34% that they are anything but difficult to access. It is noted that the European average does not exceed 26%.

However, what they can obtain unhindered as it appears is alcohol (this is 92% of participants). It is no coincidence that only in Athens it is estimated that 200 cases of drunkenness are recorded in the on -call Children’s Hospitals.

However, significantly increased in 2024 and the percentage of 16 -year -old in Greece reporting that they have smoked conventional but mainly electronic/vape cigarettes compared to 2019 (from 43% to 54%).

As Anna Kokkevi commented, Om. Professor of the Nursing School of Medicine and Head of ESPAD Research in PIPYY, « The significant rise in the use of electronics/vape cigarettes by adolescents is also related to our country directly to their aggressive commercial promotion as a » safer « alternative, which enhances their intent and intentional. »

It is noted that ESPAD (European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs) is implemented every four years in more than 35 European countries, in collaboration with the European Agency for Drugs (EUDA).

The Greek section of the research (in 2024 involved 6,810 students) is implemented by the SPECIFI, with the support of the National Documentation and Information Center for Drugs, Alcohol and Other Addictive Behavior (ENDPN).
