The illegal event was named ‘Teknival’ and not only attracted party numbers from all over the country, but also from France, the Netherlands and even Spain. The NATO site where the rave takes place has been breakfast for several years.
The mayor visited the site on Friday evening to negotiate with the organizers. An agreement was reached to end the festival on Sunday afternoon.
« We do not have sufficient resources to evacuate several thousand people in complete safety, » the municipality said. « Together with the police, we will nevertheless continue to act strongly to ensure that the law is complied with and that everyone is safe. »
A first aid item was set up and various roads that lead to the former military base were blocked by the authorities. Checks are also being carried out to prevent people from joining the event.
« The organizers wanted the festival to last longer, but we have let them understand that that is not possible, » explains Arnaud Allard. « Now we are concentrating on safety and limiting the crowds. However, we will use more resources if they do not keep their word on Sunday afternoon and not leave the site. »
