26-year-old is sentenced to forensic psychiatric care for ICA Maxi murder

A judgment at Södertörn District Court on Monday shows that a 26-year-old man is sentenced to forensic psychiatric care for the murder of a woman at ICA Maxi in Botkyrka in January this year.

– The man has admitted that he killed the woman and his recognition receives strong support from other investigations. Therefore, he is convicted of the murder. Since the district court makes the assessment that the man suffers from a serious mental disorder and did so even in the crime, the penalty is determined to forensic psychiatric care, says Anna Avenberg, chief counsel and chair of the case.

It was at 19.41 on Tuesday, January 7 that the alarm came about A woman had been attacked by a man with a knife inside Ica Maxi in Norsborg in Botkyrka south of Stockholm. The woman flew to hospital but her life could not be saved.

In connection with the attack, a 26-year-old man was arrested, and shortly thereafter he was arrested on suspicion of murdered 60-year-old Mayson Ayoub Who had worked in the ICA Maxi store for many years.

Early on, it was clear that Mayson Ayoub was probably a randomly selected victim. The preliminary investigation later did not give any more insights into what motive the 26-year-old had to attack the woman, except that he claims that he initially wanted to kill himself with the murder weapon.

When the man was later arrested by the police, it was not in accordance with his wishes, the 26-year-old later says in interrogation.

– I told the police to shoot me, but they didn’t want to, he then told the investigators.

The 26-year-old early admitted the murder and later also underwent a forensic psychiatric investigation (RPU) after suspicions that he had committed the act under the influence of a serious mental disorder. IN The RPU is presented the man as well -groomed, but it is noted that he gave an emotionally « blunted impression ». The man, who is married and has a small child, must have been significantly depressed during high school and gradually gained an ever worse mental ability. The last time before the murder, the 26-year-old should not even have managed normal household chores and was « helped by the family to manage their basic needs », according to the investigation.

Although the man’s problems have been going on in 2017 and that he has, among other things, had « violent fantasies », it appears in the RPU that he he had only had sparse contacts with the health care.
