Every day, 20 victims of abuse do not enter the Flemish help line nupratikerover.be. Unacceptable, according to CD&V.
Nupratikerover.be is a helpline where less and adult victims of sexual abuse- but actually all forms of abuse- can go. And that for thirteen years. And the number of calls, via a chat button, has been increasing for a few years. From 187 in a whole year in 2015, to 117 per month in 2024, figures that Vlaams MP Katrien Schryvers (CD&V) requested.
The CD&V’ster welcomes that there is a low -threshold and accessible helpline. But she is worried about the increasing number of calls that remains unanswered. That was about seven thousand last year, because there were no callers available. That is a lot more than in recent years. In addition, two hundred victims did not enter, while a helpline was active. In total it concerns twenty missed chat conversations per day. « Every missed conversation is a failure of the assistance. We cannot and should not accept that, » says Schryvers, who calls for Flemish Minister for Welfare Caroline Gennez (Vooruit) to take this into account in her plan for youth assistance. (Fem)
