The investigation against a 45-year-old former city officer of Nieuwpoort for voyeurism has been completed. SD must appear within two weeks before the council chamber where the public prosecutor will ask to take him to court. « A total of 19 victims were identified, » the public prosecutor reports.
The 45-year-old SD was connected to the city of Nieuwpoort for seven years. There he held the position of expert public domain and mobility and enjoyed a flawless reputation. However, his mask dropped out in January of this year. For a long time, the police had been investigating for a long time for voyeurism on the scoutskamp of the Saascouts 8th FOS ‘t Vloedgat in Beringen. Both in the summer of 2023 and in 2024 there was secretly filmed in the showers with a hidden camera, although that camera was not discovered until last year. The camp was abruptly demolished and the scouts returned.
As a cooking parent
It was unclear for a long time who placed the camera and how many images were made. The police conducted an investigation for months and, like many, SD reacted ‘shocked’ to the news. After all, the man was twice as a cooking parent in his spare time.
In January, however, it became clear that SD himself was the perpetrator. Only in February was he effectively arrested and arrested. That was because the public prosecutor’s office in the meantime discovered that the man had secretly filmed in his working environment, so the town hall. « He is very embarrassed about the facts. He realizes that he needs help and is already working on a process, » his then lawyer reported.

SD was finally in custody for voyeurism for two months while the investigation continued. On April 8 last month he was released under conditions. « But I do not wish to respond to what conditions they are and do not comment on the content of the case, » said his counsel Filip De Reuse then. In the meantime, the city of Nieuwpoort was not standing still. SD was fired with immediate effect and no longer had access to the town hall. The investigation was continued after his release.
« That research has since been completed, » reports the public prosecutor’s office in West Flanders. « 19 victims were identified. » Whether they will all be civil party is not clear. It is now up to the council chamber, who will judge on 3 June, whether the man will be referred to the criminal bank. That process then comes in the autumn at the earliest.(JHM)
