18,600 Ukrainian residents / day lost temporary defense status in Latvia
There are 30,920 Ukrainian people in the Register of Natural Persons, whose current form of nationality is temporary protection of Latvia.
The Board has changed information on 18,600 Ukrainian people who have lost their temporary defense status in Latvia, because within one month after the visa or residence permit, they have not applied for a new temporary residence permit.
This number includes both persons who have expired the issued visas or residence permits in the first quarter of 2025 and the persons who expired in 2022.
Their stay in the OCMA is unknown, but it was admitted that some of these people had left Latvia. Representatives of the Board note that at the end of the temporary defense status, the Ukrainian people do not have to report whether and where they are going.
If a Ukrainian resident who has lost their temporary defense continues to stay in Latvia, he / she must submit an application to restore the temporary defense status and request the residence permit.
« For those Ukrainian civilians who continue to stay in Latvia, it is important to submit documents because the residence permit is related to the possibility of receiving benefits and other services, » emphasizes Maira Roze, the head of the OCMA.
If a residence permit has been issued in the past, a copy of the travel document and the application for a free form must be submitted. If a visa has been issued in the past, a copy of the travel document must be submitted and the residence permit application form must be completed.
On the other hand, if a Ukrainian resident is an adult Russian or Belarusian citizen, a copy of the travel document must be submitted, a completed residence permit application form and additional questionnaire for the competent authorities of the national authorities.
The prepared documents can be submitted electronically by signing them with a secure e-signature and sending them to the e-mail address « (Email Protected)« , or by mail to the OCMA territorial departments. Documents can also be submitted to one of the uniform customer service centers of the state and municipalities.
In the event of a positive decision, the applicant will have to go to any territorial department of the administration to draw up the new residence permit EID card.
