16 young Scouts honored the presidential mark

16 young Scouts honored the presidential mark


16 young Scouts were honored with the presidential mark in Bessastaðir today when Halla Tómasdóttir, the president of Iceland and the protector of the scouting movement in Iceland, provided the mark for the first time.

This is stated in a statement from the Alliance of Icelandic Scouts.

The presidential mark is awarded to scouts aged 16-18, who have chosen to work on the mark in parallel with their work.

In the presidential mark, the value of the scouting movement is merged with the individual’s personal progress and to make their best society for good.

The road trip to the presidential mark is a 2-3 year project that encourages the Scouts to personal growth through 20 diverse projects, which says in the announcement.

In addition, the Scouts need to attend a five -day international scout tournament, travel 40 kilometers on their own, attend weekend training courses and 12 hours of first aid courses.

Finally, they choose two long-term projects that require their active participation over a 3-12 month period.

On the occasion, Harpa Ósk Valgeirsdóttir, a scout chief, granted a scout chief, Halla gold mark of the Icelandic Scouts.

In gratitude, Harpa said a great honor for Scouts that Halla agreed to be the protector of the scouting movement and thus maintaining the tradition that the presidential signal has been in the scouting work.
