16-year-old son confesses murder of his mother and sister in Haasrode (Leuven)

The 16-year-old boy, brother of the deceased sister, son of the deceased mother, has made confessions to the investigators during an hour. Both victims were found on Friday in the old rectory of Haasrode near Leuven. The fire brigade was called for a fire. The woman and her daughter were found in the house.

The 16-year-old son was already taken by the police on Friday. He is confronted with incriminating elements from the judicial investigation and proceeded to confessions on Saturday. He will be brought before the juvenile judge tomorrow, Sarah Callewaert from the Parket of Leuven confirms.

The investigation remains in the hands of the investigating judge. In view of the minor, he must appear before a juvenile judge tomorrow, he will probably be transferred to a closed institution in the first instance.

The Leuven public prosecutor confirms that the minor suspect has made confessions after a five -hour interrogation.

The boy is barely 16 and is said to have attended school at the time of the facts. He was initially also received as a victim. Now it appears that he first killed the two with violence and tried to camouflage his actions afterwards by founding a fire.

The motive is still unclear.

Stab wounds

The two victims were discovered on Friday morning in a fire in their home in the Milsestraat. It was noted around 9.30 am. Police, fire brigade and medical emergency services immediately rushed to the scene. Around 10.20 am the fire was under control, but when searching the house, the emergency services found the lifeless body of a 46-year-old woman. A second victim, her 6-year-old daughter, was resuscitated on the spot, but died shortly afterwards.

Both victims showed stab wounds, on which the Leuven public prosecutor immediately opened a judicial investigation for murder. The first investigation by the fire expert also showed that the fire in the home had been lit.

The building, a former pastory, is owned by the local church factory, but was rented by the municipality of Oud-Heverlee. He rented it on to Ukrainian refugees. Currently, a family of three people, a mother and her two children lived in the building.
