105 animals were sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped for free – the angle – see the world as it is!

The campaign « Care for the fur. Sterilize, vaccine, we love », held in May in Ungheni, offered free veterinary services for 105 pensioners, vulnerable families and animals without a master. The project brings to the fore a problem too long: uncontrolled multiplication of animals and lack of access to veterinary services in the rural area.

Abandonment continues to be a cruel reality for thousands of animals in the Republic of Moldova. Dogs and cats are left in bags or boxes on the roadside, where many do not survive. Those who do it get to look for food and shelter in crowded places, hoping they will be saved.

The problem is generated by uncontrolled multiplication and lack of access to veterinary services. In many villages there are no clinics, resources or information, and people do not know how to intervene.
In order to respond to this urgent need, the campaign « Care for the fur. Sterilize, Vaccina, we love », held in Ungheni by the Alga Association in partnership with Kaufland and IPIS, offered free sterilizations, vaccinations, microchips and records for 105 animals in the care of the vulnerable families, or without the pension.

The high demand in the first week of the campaign has confirmed the reality ignored for too long: the situation of the animals in Ungheni is serious. Iustina Rotaru, project manager, says that the solution starts from households, where animals multiply uncontrollably and inevitably reach abandoned. A painful case was that of a volunteer who scheduled three dogs for sterilization, but one of them was poisoned before reaching the intervention. « This shows how urgent it is to offer human and efficient solutions, such as mass sterilization. Otherwise, the circle of suffering continues. »

For two weeks, the Alga team worked in the field, taking over the animals from the beneficiaries, capturing them from the street, transporting them to the sterilization point and offering them complete medical care.
Mrs. Lidia, a 72 -year -old pensioner, has a puppy – Gherda. « I took her from the street. He was looking for a pity for one neighbor, then to another and no one took her. Before that she was born about 3 times. I was very pity on her, she had been cold and I have already taken it. I am so glad to sterilize it and that she will not make chickens anymore. »

With the owners of the animals he communicated at all stages of the process. From them, a general information about the fur is obtained, then the procedure is explained and the consent form is signed. Irina Pisica, a veterinary assistant, emphasizes that: « This campaign is not just about operations. It is about education, talking to people, explaining why vaccination, microchipping, how we prevent diseases. We show them that their animals can be properly and safely taken care of. »

At the sterilization point, everything was done with maximum care. Mihai Lazăr is the veterinarian of this campaign. He believes that every pet must be treated with respect and love. « Each life is precious and it is our duty to intervene with professionalism. The animals are anesthetized, the operations are safe, and the recovery is carefully monitored. Within the campaign the instruments are sterilized with the dedicated equipment, and the vital functions are followed at a veterinarian. »

For pensioners or vulnerable families, the cost of sterilization operations is far too high. For some it is impossible to allow such an expense. An example in this case is Mrs. Tatiana. She has 3 dogs. The approximate cost of the operations would have been 6000 lei. He learned about the program « on the Internet » and was extremely excited about such an initiative. In the first week, Mrs. Tatiana brought two puppies, and then she would be so pleased and bring a puppy.

The realization of this project was possible thanks to the general partner Kaufland. Cristina Arama, Corporate Affairs manager, at Kaufland Moldova, says that through the project « Care for Blănoși » is responded to one of the most stringent needs in the rural localities: ensuring a safe environment for animals, for those in the care of social-vulnerable families and pensioners. « We are actively involved in sterilization and vaccination actions, along with our partners, to prevent the suffering of animals and to contribute to reducing their number on the streets. Kaufland is your family store and here we refer to all its members – including the fluffy ones. The involvement makes the difference in the community in which we activate. »

Sterilization, vaccination and microchipping are real forms of responsibility.
The campaign « Care for fur » has shown that when support and information are provided, people react and the community changes.

People will be able to buy food and products for animals directly from Kaufland stores and donate them in specially arranged areas. Subsequently, all the products collected were offered to animal shelters in Ungheni and Chisinau.

Each fur deserves a chance at a decent life. We must be the voice of those who
They don’t have it!

The campaign « Care for fur » is implemented by the Alga Association, with the support of Kaufland Moldova. The project is co -financed by IPIS and carried out in collaboration with the City Hall of Ungheni and the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA).
