The coast looks back on a successful Easter holiday: the soft weather attracted 1.3 million day tourists to the sea. In addition, provincial company Westtoer also noted 1.6 million tourist overnight stays, or ten percent more than last year.
That the Easter holiday became a hit on the coast does not have to be surprised. On the busiest days (fruitless) it was searching for an empty spot on terraces or beach bars. « The sunny weather caused an extra stimulus. During this Easter holidays, the sun was shining on average nine hours and 55 minutes a day at the sea. That is three hours more a day than during the Easter holidays in 2024, » calculated Westtoer. And that translated into excellent figures.
Top days with 125,000 visitors
Westtoer recorded a total of 1.6 million tourist overnight stays on the coast, with a peak during the weekends. That is ten percent more than last year. The average hotel occupation was 60 percent, or 15 percent better than in 2024. During the Easter weekend, the hotels were even 85 percent full. « The situation differs from seaside resort to seaside resort. Some seaside resorts even recorded a hotel occupation to more than 90 percent during the weekend of 12 and 13 April, » said Westtoer.
Another 1.6 million day tourists were finished. That number is also 20 percent higher than last year. « The top days for day tourism were Saturday 12 and Saturday 19 April, with around 125,000 visitors each, » it sounds.
Striking: a fifth of the number of overnight stays were French -speaking Belgians, despite the fact that the Walloon spring holiday will only start on 26 April. About 15 percent turned out to be foreign guests, while the Flemish signed for 65 percent of all nights. The Easter holidays provided a wonderful holiday atmosphere on the coast. In addition to the beautiful weather, the day and residence tourists were also seduced by the many other assets that the coast has to offer, « says Ellen Bruynoghe, coast manager at Westtoer.
Harbinger
The Kusthoreca is now looking forward to the spring vacation for the French -speaking Belgians, the extended weekend around May 1 and Ascension. « We hope that this Easter holiday, together with the already successful crocus holiday, is a nice harbinger for what we can expect in 2025, » says Bruynoghe.
